20 September 1944: RHQ, Wksps 9 and 10 Pls close 1500 hrs. Cross Escaut Canal and Dutch border 2300 hrs.
21 September 1944: RHQ est, 9, 10 Pls. Wksps at Boshoven. Capt Cadbury-Brown in Comd SP Troop. 2 SP Bofors to each Bde.
22 September 1944: SP guns with 2 Mons at Postel shoot up suspected enemy HQ. Range 1500 yds. Amn Expended 100 HE, 36 AP. Farm set on fire, enemy later driven out leaving 31 wounded. HQ confirmed.
23 September 1944: 2 SP guns with HLI at Oostelbeers shoot up enemy MG nest in house, range 600 yds. Amn expended 70 HE, 30 AP. Inf later report all occupants killed end of house demolished. Later target Church Tower at 900 yds used as OP. Amn expended 50 HE and 20 AP. Tremendous air activity to-day - gliders with Dakotas and Stirlings - many hundred flying in direction Arnhem.
26 September 1944: 1845 - 2 SP guns with 6 RWF at Reusel shot up windmill (OP) at 500 yds and tower (OP) at 2000 yds. Amn expended 68 HE and 16 AP. Few hits observed in fading light, enemy began mortaring.
27 September 1944: 2 SP guns with Oxf Bucks at Dun. Target farm at 450 yds and church in Oirschot used as OP. Amn expended 125 HE, 40 AP. Hayrick set on fire, farm shot up.
28 September 1944: 2 SPs wiht Oxf Bucks have four engagements in Dun, shooting up factory, towers used as OPs and other small targets. No results observed. Range 500 yds. Amn expended 215 HE, 65 AP.
29 September 1944: 2 SPs with Oxf Bucks at Dun have four engagements - enemy positions in bldgs and an OP near Oirschot at 1500 yds. Enemy replied with small Arms and Mortar fire, results not observed.
1 October 1944: RHQ est, 9 and 10 Pls Boshoven, CMO and Inf Coy Eersel. X OP move with 158 Inf Bde under Comd 15(S) Div.
4 October 1944: 381 Bty ove to Fort 5 Antwerp to reform to LAA. Inf Coy disbanded, personnel return to 381 and 382 Btys.
6 October 1944: CM HQ leaves Eersel for Grave. 382 Bty move to Fort 5 Antwerp to reform to LAA. 381 Bty move forward to harbour Eindhoven area prior to joining 160 Inf Bde.
7 October 1944: CM HQ moves to Grave Island. OPs Y and Z deployed. Much shelling during recce and deployment. 381 Bty deployed North of Nijmegen. D Tp on Div HQ. A Tp with 81 Fd Regt. G Tp with 133 Fd Regt. CM deploy to OPs in new area North of Nijmegen.
8 October 1944: 382 Bty moved from Fort 5 Antwerp to Grave.
9 October 1944: 0800 - RHQ and LAA Wksps move, arriving 1150 hrs. 382 Bty deployed. C Tp with 72 Med Regt. F Tp with 6 Fd Regt. J Tp area of Ressen. Y OP suffered two direct hits. Two minor casualties.
12 October 1944: 4 Ground shoots were carried out on rds NE of Canal. 4 Guns used from F Tp. Air OP (US) used. 365 rds expended 14 Tracer. 8 Guns engaged ME 262 on its first appearance at 1705 hrs, 88 rounds expended. Two bombs dropped. J/382 engaged 2 ME 109's at 1430 hrs. Some shelling - Gnr Nicholls wounded.
14 October 1944: Ground shooting 1100 hrs, 4 guns of F Tp harassing fire. Predicted shoot on recorded targets, 435 rounds expended.
15 October 1944: 1200 - Ground shooting by 8 guns of C and F Tps (Victor Target). Harassing fire on enemy comns rd junc and wood. 692 rounds expended.
16 October 1944: Award of BEM to WO II 5246211 Withers, J. (21 AGRO No. 40/44).
17 October 1944: CM HQ moves to Schaijk. Z OP remained on Island with 160 Inf Bde.
18 October 1944: 0030 - Regt move South from Island to Div Conc Area SW of Grave.
Arr 0330 hrs. 1200 - CM move to Nistelrode.
19 October 1944: X OP rejoins CM on 158 Inf Bde reverting to command 53 (S) Div.
21 October 1944: 1600 - RHQ move to Oss. 381 and 382 Btys remain present locations pending result of battle 1200 - CM moves to Oss.
22 October 1944: OPs joined Inf Bdes for OP Alan I.
24 October 1944: 1400 - CM moved to Nuland.
Night 24/25 October 1944: HF carried out on area Empel and Gewande carried out under direction CMO.
24 October 1944: 1600 - Regt less LAA Wksps move to area approx 4 miles NE 's Hertogenbosch. A Tp deployed at bridge in Eastern edge of city. In action 1730 hrs.
25 October 1944: OPs Y and Z deployed in 's Hertogenbosch. 1500 - 381 HQ move to 's Hertogenbosch. A Tp engage enemy held sheds at 1830 hrs, with 27 rds (12 AP and 15 HE) at request of Bn Comd of 160 Inf Bde. Range - 250 yds, result - hits observed. Some shelling - vehs hit.
26 October 1944: C Tp move to city. In action 1430 hrs. G Tp in action 1430 hrs with 4 guns.
Night 26/27 October 1944: HF carried out by 63 Hy Regt on enemy routes over River Maas under direction of CMO.
27 October 1944: 1400 - CM moves to Heerenbeek. 1300 - 382 moves to city. 1600 - RHQ moves in to School. F and J Tps relieve A and G Tps, the latter Tp moving and deploying 4 guns.
Night 27/28 October 1944: HF carried out on bridge and ferries over River Maas under direction CMO. Div HQ shelled during night.
28 October 1944: CM HQ moves to Nuland. 1800 - 2 guns Tp engage river crossing and Empel, predicted shoot - results unobserved - 141 rds fired (14 Tracer). 1430 - D Tp No 6, while recce for positions engage enemy held positions - factory and buildings. 107 rounds expended also SAA. observed shoot at 250 yds. Bldgs destroyed, enemy softened and 12 PWs gave themselves up. A further 39 rds fired at same target - results not observed. 5 guns in action HQ.
29 October 1944: 1400 - D6 continue to battle with enemy in factory area. 520 rounds expended, at least one Spandau KO'd, 30 hits on blockhouse. 8 PWs taken, 40 enemy left factory. 1035 - D6 continue yesterday's war in factory area against MG nests - occupied bldgs. 240 rounds expended. (PWs taken, 10 killed, 50 fled.) Inf occupy vacated position.
30 October 1944: Capt D. Lever, BSM Affleck, killed in action to-day (buried at 53 (W) Div Burial Ground Oss). 3 SPs of D Tp in support of Coy 6 RWF and Platoon of Carriers in factory area. Stiff opposition from Paratps was encountered. Gnr 08 Williams wounded trying to rescue his TC.
31 October 1944: 0720 - Regt leaves 's Hertogenbosch for Belgium front. Arrived Opitter at 1100 hrs. 381 Bty deploy, A and G Tps area Bree. D Tp at Bocholt. In action 1915 hrs. 382 Bty area Weert (F and C Tps) J at Staurpraij. In action 2000 hrs. Capt. J.R. Potter assumed command D Tp. 1030 - CM HQ moves to Bocholt. Z OP remained in 's Hertogenbosch with 160 Inf Bde.
1 November 1944: 381 Bty at Bree with HQ Opitter.
5 November 1944: Cand F Tps (3 gns each) engage enemy HQ and localities in wood. Predicted shoot, 312 rds expended.
6 November 1944: J Tp (4 guns) engage enemy HQ and localities in wood. Air OP results satisfactory. 112 out of last 120 rds on target. 305 rds 14 Tracer expended.
8 November 1944: 380 BHQ reform with HQ. CMO att HQ RA 53 (W) Div for all purposes. Major F.H. Hill resumes comd of 380 Bty with Capt A.D.C. Clark as Bty Capt.
10 November 1944: 1535 - 3 guns of J Tp engage enemy in OP windmill. Air OP used. 297 rds HE expended. Results satisfactory. 12 hits observed on vane - range 4500 yds.
1400 - RHQ closes, reopens Weert opposite Church. 381 HQ moves to Boshoverbeek. D and F remain present locations. A Tp reverts to comd 380 Bty, F Tp to 381 and G to 382. G Tp HQ to Boshoverbeek.
11 November 1944: 380 with A and C move and harbour.
14 November 1944: 2015 - 381 Bty (F Tp and 2 guns D Tp) in sp 'OP Mallard' giving directional fire for tanks. 5 rds rapid HE every 5 mins by guns from H - 15 to H + 45, thereafter 1 rd every 15 mins until dawn.
15 November 1944: 381 Tractor damaged by mine; no casualties.
16 November 1944: 3 guns of J Tp in action at Br building site. G Tp deployed round Div HQ. 380 HQ to Baexem. A & C in harbour.
17 November 1944: 0920 - Lt Smith ordered Div Arty to engage - the first Div Arty task on Germany. Remaining J Tp gun deployed across canal. D Tp deployed round br. 381 HQ move to Ell. A Tp deployed Horn. C at Baexem. Application for award of posthumous VC to Capt D Lever sent fwd to HQ RA.
18 November 1944: 1200 - A Tp shot up enemy posns on Oxf & Bucks front. 6 guns used in 3 separate engagements. 382 HE and 165 AP expended - range 1500 yds; results - destruction of houses - highly satisfactory and much appreciated by Inf who saw 15 enemy run like 'scaldet cats'. 0530 - A Tp provide directional fire for Oxf & Bucks operation.
0600 - 120 rds expended.
1525 - C Tp (4 guns) carry out harassing tasks for 4 RWF on Weert. OP in Horn. Br and orchard target - area successful shelled. 343 rds HE expended.
19 November 1944: 1430 - 3 guns of A Tp engage house and haystack, range 3000 yds and 2000 yds. 678 rds expended; haystack alight and house badly damaged with roof shot away.
20 November 1944: 1600 - Brickworks, barn and haystack engaged by 3 guns each of A and C Tps direct and indirect respectively. 500 rds HE and 174 AP expended. Barn roof destroyed, walls badly damaged; brickworks; all rds on target area. Haystack set alight.
1630 - D Tp 2 guns engage enemy in bldgs. 350 HE expended. 70% hits registered on target; house badly damaged.
0830-1930 - HQ moves; 381 to Grathem with F and D in harbour. 382 with J in harbour. G at Div HQ. LAD remain Weert.
21 November 1944: 2000 - 4 guns of C Tp engage enemy MGs. 576 HE expended. Are considered to have been neutralised.
1930-0600 - 4 guns of A Tp engage target at intervals. 600 HE and AP expended. Target area harassed successfully from 1930-2000 hrs. SL dazzle made visibility impossble. Enemy HE and airbursts considerable.
22 November 1944: 0300 - No casualties. Spandau engaged. Very heavy enemy bombardment of Horn between 0400 - 0500; slight damage to vehs. RE offr from bridging op asked to see Dets and praised their work.
0745 - A2 engaged enemy OP in church tower Roermond in response to call from OC Oxf & Bucks. Direct shoot - range 2400 yds. 120 HE and AP expended. 100% hits obtained wiht last 60 rds.
25 November 1944: 1400 - RHQ moved to Heythuizen. 381 HQ to Roggel. D and F to harbour. G move with Div HQ.
26 November 1944: 1500 - J Tp (4 guns) engage posns in village of Riekel.710 rds exp in 12 mins. Air OP used. Results most satisfactory. Many houses hit and set alight; also haystack. All rds in target area.
1600 - G Tp SPs engaged factory and windmill. 160 rds HE used and no enemy reaction. Enemy air activity over area from 1815 - 1845 and 2130 - 2230 hrs. Flares and bombs dropped; machine-gunning. JU88 identified but out of range
27 November 1944: 0130-0230 - 1 gun C Tp engaged JU88; 10 rds exp. F Tp 3 guns engaged low flying enemy. 18 rds exp. No claims. AP bombs dropped in Fd gun area, also machine-gunning. 1 O of 381 Bty wounded.
1500 - C Tp 4 guns engaged enemy Pl in wood and Herten incl OP in church steeple at range of 4500 and 5250 yds respectively. Indirect shoot with OP in house. 360 HE and 60 AP exp. All rds on target and church steeple hit at least 60 times.
J Tp 3 guns bombard Riekel. 576 HE exp. Air OP used and reported area 'devastated' and bldgs set alight.
28 November 1944: 1200 - J Tp 4 guns engage enemy OP in water tower at Herten. 672 rds HE exp. Air OP used. Results successful.
1300 -C Tp 4 guns engage enemy in water tower area. 165 HE and 37 AP exp.
29 November 1944: 1600 - C Tp 4 guns engage enemy in water tower in Herten area. 202 E and 62 AP exp. All rds fell in target area. Ranged with 2 rds seen clearly.
1900 - Letter from C-in-C to Lt-Col Walter advising the disbandment of the Regt to provide Inf Tps.
